Cleanup.bat — Novice Version

Cleanup.Bat

This simple, free batch file can scrub your hard drive clean of many junk files, freeing up (typically) anywhere from tens to thousands of megabytes of otherwise-wasted disk space.

This novice version is intended to make it easy to read the file's contents (using Notepad or a similar text editor) to see exactly what the file will do, in order to (1) ensure the file will work properly on your particular system; and (2) modify the file, if you wish, to extend its functions and usefulness.

This file is specifically for Windows9x.

For WinME and NT/2K/XP, see this.

These files are part of a detailed series of articles on system maintenance in the LangaList newsletters and on the WinMag.Com site; those articles comprise the documentation and fully describe the evolving purpose, use of, and precautions about this file. To be fully informed, please read the articles found here, here, and here before proceeding. If you have any trouble, please especially see this and this.

As the series progresses, these files are being enhanced, improved, and extended. Read the free LangaList Newsletter for details and to be sure you get the next version as soon as it becomes available!

(These files have been run successfully on tens of thousands of systems. But please note the cautions here; it is your responsibility to follow all instructions and to ensure that these files are OK to run on your particular system and setup. To that end, the above documentation links contain everything you need to know about the files.)

STEP ONE:
Read the above, and then
Download Cleanup.Bat
(In some browsers, you may need to right-click on the above link and select
'save link as...')

STEP TWO:
Use NotePad (or a similar text editor) to open and read the contents of Cleanup.Bat to ensure the commands and structure are OK to run on your particular setup.

STEP THREE:
If the file is OK to run on your system, double-click on C:\Cleanup.Bat and enjoy your new-found disk space!

Very Cool Extra For Everyone:
Integrate Cleanup.Bat
into your Recycle Bin menu!
